How Does It Work?

Calcium deficiency typically manifests in young leaves and near growing points of stems and roots. Symptoms include distorted young leaves with hooked tips and curled margins, brown scorching or spotting, and die-back of stems near growing points. These issues are common in crops like tomatoes and celery, especially during rapid growth, flowering, and fruiting stages. Blossom End Rot is one such example of calcium deficiency. Calcium Chelate should be applied in multiple applications to meet the plant’s calcium needs effectively.

Application:

Calcium Chelate can be applied to a wide range of crops including, but not limited to, strawberries, raspberries, tomatoes, bell peppers, celery, and lettuce. It can be used for foliar applications, soil applications, and hydroponic programs. The product is physically compatible in spray tanks with most agrochemicals. Always review the label for specific application rates and recommendations.

Mixing Instructions:

Calcium Chelate is soluble in water. Add the weighed amount of powder slowly to the bulk of the water and stir or agitate until dissolved. If pesticides are used in the spray mix, add them after the Calcium Chelate has dissolved.

Application Rates:

  • Field Crops: Apply 1 to 2 lbs. per acre as a soil application before sowing or planting. Use a convenient volume of water and cultivate into the soil. Can be mixed with nitrogen solution or pre-planting herbicide sprays.
  • Vegetable Crops: Apply ¼ to 1 lb. per acre per week in the normal spray program. Use higher rates prior to the usual onset of deficiency symptoms.
  • Fruit Trees: Apply ¼ to 1 lb. per acre in a suitable amount of water for coverage.
  • Strawberries: To improve size, shelf-life, and firmness, apply 1 lb. per acre when berries are marble size, mature size but still green, and pink to red.
  • Peanuts: For Spanish and small-seeded varieties, apply 1 lb. per acre at early bloom. For Florunner variety, the application can be split into two applications. For large-seeded Virginia varieties, apply 1 lb. per acre in addition to land plaster.
  • Foliar Soluble Sprays: Use Miller Nutri-Leaf or Sol-U-Gro at 2 to 3 lbs. per acre to improve micronutrient uptake. Apply during early morning or late evening for maximum effect.
  • Turf Applications: Apply ½ to 1 lb. per acre for lawns, sod, and golf courses, followed by thorough watering. Do not exceed 1 lb. per acre per application to avoid crop injury.

Precautions:

Wash hands with soap and water before meals and after work. Store in the original container, tightly closed, in a dry place away from children, pets, livestock, and foodstuffs. For more information on the contents and levels of metals in this product, visit AAPFCO.
